How to text a crew member their day each morning

The morning route text sends a crew member who does not use the worker app one text a day: how many jobs, when the first starts and where. Growing plan and up.

Some people on your crew will never open an app. They want to know one thing before the truck leaves: how many stops, and where the first one is. The morning route text sends them that, once, each morning, from your business number.

It is built for people who do not use the worker app. It comes with customer texting, so it is on the same plans as texting (Growing and up), and texting has to be turned on first.

1 Open the Morning route text card

Go to your Subscription page, Texting tab, and find the Morning route text card, below Text forwarding. It lists you and your team, each with a switch and a Cell number box. The owner changes it. Admins can open the card and preview a text, but cannot turn anyone on.

2 Turn someone on

Type the person’s cell number, press Save number, then flip their switch. ClippingCash texts that phone from your business number and asks them to reply ROUTE. Their row reads Waiting for them to reply ROUTE until they do, then On. Resend sends the ask again.

Nobody gets a morning text until their own phone answers ROUTE, and you cannot switch that step off for them. Agreeing to copies of customer texts is a different thing, so a person on text forwarding is asked again for this one. If you change a person’s number later, the new number needs its own ROUTE. A person who texts STOP is off, and has to text START before you can turn them back on.

3 What the text says

One short text, with the count, the first start time and the first street, and nothing else:

Hi Sam, 3 jobs today, first at 8:30am at 123 Main St - Your company. Reply STOP to opt out.

There is no customer name, customer phone number or price in it. The start time shows only when the first stop has a set time. An anytime visit gives the count and the street without a time.

4 Pick the send time

Send at sets the time in your company’s time zone. It starts at 6:30 AM and can be any time from 6:00 AM to 8:59 PM. Change it, press Save time, and that time applies to everyone on the card. The text goes out within about five minutes of that time. If ClippingCash was down at that moment, it still sends for up to three hours afterward, and then skips the day, because “3 jobs today” at 2 in the afternoon is noise.

5 Check it before the first one goes

Press Preview today on a person’s row to see exactly what they would get this morning. If nothing would go out, the preview says why.

When no text goes out

  • No jobs that day. Nothing is sent on a day with no jobs for that person.
  • The person uses the worker app. Someone whose phone has used the worker app with notifications on in the last 30 days gets no text, because the app already tells them. Their row says so.
  • Not confirmed, or opted out. No ROUTE reply yet, or they texted STOP.
  • One text a day, at most. A person never gets two in one day, even if the server restarts.

Each text uses one text credit, so a crew member on the card costs a credit on each working day. If texting is off or you are out of credits, nothing is sent.
