Today is the screen you open first and come back to all day. It is the day’s work, in one view, with the two things you actually need: what is on, and where it is.
1 Open Today
The owner app opens on Today, headed with the day and date.
If there is nothing on, it says No jobs scheduled for today and points you at the plus button to create a job or at Calendar to look at other days. An empty Today is more often work sitting on a different date than work that does not exist.
2 Switch between list and map
There are two views of the same day: List view and Map view.
List view is for “what am I doing”. Map view is for “where is it all”, and it is the one that shows you instantly when the day has you crossing town twice.
If the map is missing pins, those properties have no coordinates. Fix them on the Properties page, because a property with no pin is invisible on the map and cannot be optimized into a route either.
3 Timed versus Any Time
Jobs are grouped into Timed and Any Time.
Timed jobs have a committed time. A customer is expecting you then, and those are the fixed points of the day.
Any Time jobs just need doing today. These are your slack, and they are what makes a route efficient: fill the gaps between timed commitments with anytime work, and drop or move anytime work when the day runs long.
Be sparing with timed jobs. Every one you promise reduces your ability to run a sensible route, so use them where the customer genuinely needs to be there and leave the rest as anytime.
4 Add a job
New job creates one on the spot. This is what you use when a customer flags you down or rings while you are out.
Capture it immediately. A job you meant to add when you got back is a job you did not do and did not bill.
5 Jump to the rest
From Today you can reach Route, Calendar, Customers and Quotes directly, which covers nearly everything you do between stops.
A working routine
Morning: open Today, glance at the map, switch to Route and optimize, adjust for the two or three constraints you know about.
Through the day: Today in list view, working down it. Anything new goes straight in as a job.
End of day: check nothing is left unstarted, and clear the needs review queue if anything landed in it.
Three minutes a day, and you stop carrying the schedule in your head.
