Recurring services keep generating jobs whether or not you are working that week. Holiday exceptions are how you tell ClippingCash about the days you are off, so Thanksgiving does not show up as a route nobody runs.
1 Open holiday exceptions and add one
Find the holiday exceptions page under your service settings. Existing entries are listed under Active Exceptions, and the table shows Date, Type, Reason, Reschedule To and Actions.
Click to add one and the Add Exception dialog opens.
2 Pick the date and the type
Set the Exception Date first. Then pick an Exception Type, and this is the choice that matters:
- Holiday marks a recognised day off. Shown with a red badge.
- Skip Service skips that date without calling it a holiday, for a shutdown week, a rained-out day, or equipment being down. Shown with a yellow badge.
- Reschedule moves the work to a different date rather than dropping it. Shown with a blue badge.
3 Fill in what the type requires
The form asks for different things depending on the type you picked, and it will not let you save until they are there:
- Holiday and Skip Service both require a Reason. Leave it blank and you get Reason is required for this exception type. The placeholder suggests the kind of thing to write: Thanksgiving, Company Event.
- Reschedule requires a Reschedule To date instead. Leave it blank and you get Rescheduled date is required.
Note the asymmetry, because it catches people out: a reschedule does not need a reason, and a skip does not take a target date. If you find yourself wanting both, you want a reschedule with the reason written into it, or two entries.
Click Create Exception.
4 Skip versus reschedule
This is the decision that actually affects your revenue, so it is worth being deliberate:
Skip means the visit does not happen and is not billed. Use it when the customer genuinely does not need that cut, which for a holiday week in the growing season is often not true.
Reschedule means the visit still happens, just on a different day. Use it when the grass will not wait. Moving Thursday’s route to Saturday keeps the cadence and keeps the money.
A skipped week in June is a visit you never bill for. Across a full book of recurring customers that adds up faster than most operators expect, so default to reschedule during the growing season and reserve skip for the genuine off-season.
5 Removing an exception
Each row has actions including delete. Deleting asks Are you sure you want to delete this exception? first, because removing an exception means the recurring jobs for that date come back.
Set the whole season’s holidays in one sitting in January or February. It takes ten minutes and saves you from noticing on the day.
