Quotes get revised. A customer asks for a cheaper option, you priced the wrong property, or the job grew. What you can change depends entirely on what state the quote is in, and ClippingCash is deliberately strict about it.
1 The seven statuses
Every quote is in exactly one of these:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not sent yet. Fully editable. |
| Sent | Emailed to the customer. |
| Viewed | The customer has opened the link. |
| Approved | The customer accepted it. |
| Declined | The customer refused it. |
| Expired | The expiry date passed with no response. |
| Converted | Turned into a job or recurring plan. |
You can filter the quote list by any of these, or All statuses.
2 Editing a draft
A draft is yours to change. Open it and you get the full editor: customer, property, line items, discount. The totals panel shows Subtotal, Discount if you applied one, and Grand Total.
The primary button reads Create Quote on a new one and Save Changes on an existing draft.
Sending is only available while the quote is a draft. That is the design: once a customer has a copy, ClippingCash stops you quietly changing the thing they were sent.
3 When a quote goes read-only
Open a quote that is no longer editable and a banner tells you so directly: This quote is [status] and is read-only. No changes can be made.
This is a feature, not an obstacle. A quote is a record of what you offered and what the customer agreed to. Being able to edit an approved quote after the fact would make it worthless as evidence in a disagreement about price.
4 So how do you revise a sent quote
You do not edit it. You supersede it:
- Create a new quote with the corrected pricing or scope.
- Send that one.
- Tell the customer plainly that the new one replaces the old.
The old quote stays in the list at whatever status it reached, which is exactly what you want: the history shows you quoted 200 dollars, then re-quoted at 240 dollars after seeing the property. That is a defensible record.
If the customer already approved the old quote and you need different numbers, that is a conversation, not an edit. Ring them before sending a revised quote for work they think is already agreed.
5 Converting an approved quote
Once a quote is Approved, the convert action appears: Convert to Job for one-off work, or Convert to Recurring Plan for an ongoing arrangement. The quote then moves to Converted.
Filter the list by Approved now and then. Anything sitting there is work the customer has said yes to that you have not yet scheduled, which is the most valuable list in the app.
